Open Education and LLL: the role of OER, MOOCs and Short Programs
Darco Jansen, Keynote speaker, European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU)
Open Education has a long history starting already in the 17th century. In the last 50 years, it was mainly associated with the Open University. In this century it became increasingly associated with OpenCourseWare, OER and MOOCs. Innovation in both “open worlds” are strongly pushed by possibilities of ICT and online education. Moreover, digital education is nowadays a strong enabler for innovations in three areas of provision: 1) degree education; 2) continuous education / LLL and 3) open education and knowledge sharing. Openness is a strong (societal) driver in this, influencing not only changes in these educational provisions but also academics research.
